One and a Half

Well, actually Cian has reached that milestone and then some, but it's a better sounding title than 19 months.  I haven't posted any stats in a while, so here are some from his 18 month appointment - height 30 1/2 inches (<10%), weight 22 lbs 9 oz (10-25%), head 49 1/2 cm (90%).

He is turning out to be a pretty picky eater.  I realize many toddlers are, but I wish I could find just one fruit or vegetable that he would consume.  Sometimes he will eat a little meat, but mostly it's toast/bread, crackers, and milk.  Most everything else goes untouched.  Well, maybe squished a little, but nowhere near his mouth.

Also, he has coined a couple of new terms around here.  First, pretty much all beverage containers are called burp.  It started out with just soda bottles/cans, but for some reason now extends to Starbucks cups, water bottles, etc.  And, Marc's iPad will forever be known as the "ent."  Apparently the cover makes it look like a book, and I always say "the end" when I finish reading a book to Cian.  So whenever he sees the iPad (which isn't often, he loves it but will destroy it if given the opportunity) he screams "Ent! Ent! Ent!"

I wanted to post a picture of him smiling, but couldn't find any that weren't also blurry, or of just half of his face or something.  It's amazing that I have one of him sitting still and looking at the camera at all.

Last but surely not least, in a few short months, Cian will get to see what it's like to be a big brother!  After the initial shock wears off, I'm sure he will have fun with it.

Pool Play

My sister gave Cian a really neat splash pool for his birthday and a few weeks ago it finally got warm enough on the weekend to try it out.

Before he got in the pool. Yes that is an owie on his forehead from when he bit it on our patio.

I guess Maggie wanted to get in on the action too.

Sadly, he didn't seem to enjoy it as much as I thought he would. He loves splashing around in the bath. I suspect the water might have been too cold for him. Maybe next time...

Just Because

I was going to post this picture on the 4th of July because of the Uncle Sam-esque look, but didn't get around to it. Because I think it's cute, here it is now:

And no I didn't put it there, he did that to himself by sticking his face in the bubbly water.

Outdoor Adventures

Cian loves playing outside. I managed to get a picture of him enjoying himself in the backyard. One of his favorite activities is to grab the watering can from its storage spot and carry it all over the place.

There is a nice park within walking distance of our house, so the other morning (when it was actually warm) we decided to venture over there. We took the little basketball, which was mine way back in the day, thinking that he might like it better than the regular sized one.

However, even though it appears that the larger ball tastes worse, he preferred to carry that one around instead.

Happy Birthday

The hubby turned 40 not very long ago. He is not one to make a big deal out of things, so we kept the celebration extremely low-key. He was trying to decide what he wanted for his milestone birthday, and wasn't being very quick about it. Thinking he was going to wind up with no gift, I made the executive decision to order an iPad. However, I'm such a cool wife that I didn't do it in time and it was backordered. Instead he got a picture of an iPad:

Ironically, he finally determined the day before his birthday that the time was right to trade in his old car for a new one (between turning 40 and getting a promotion it seemed a good way to celebrate). So he had a present on the actual day after all. I don't have a picture of him with the car yet though.

One Year Old

It's hard to believe our baby is a year old already! He's walking all over the place and loves to be chased and caught/tickled. But, I still cringe when we are outside and he heads right for the brick patio or pointy rock mulch. He gets enough bumps on his head just from falling in the house. Unfortunately, he is thisclose to figuring out how to use the dog door. He pushed his head through it the other day. Hopefully I can keep him smiling and injury-free, as seen here...

The below picture pretty much sums up how he felt about birthday cake and ice cream. I mashed it up some for him and he still wasn't tempted.

Eleven Months

As you might have guessed from the title, C just turned 11 months old. He is babbling more and more, and now also says ma, ba, and na in various configurations. Da seems to be his favorite sound though. He can take a couple steps here and there, so it seems he's fairly close to walking. He also had his first taste of dog food the other day, I'm actually surprised it took this long.

Here he is feeding Cheerios to Bowser. He thinks it's funny.

And here he is really not liking whatever I'm trying to feed him.

And finally, here is a picture of his sweet little normal face.

Double Digit Months

Cian is now 10 months old. I believe he was emitting some high-pitched squeal when I took the above picture. He's holding a play phone, which he loves to shake and eat, but that's about it at this point. Since last month, he's learned to say dada. I don't think he knows what it means yet, although there have been a couple times this week that I've wondered.

I forgot to post his nine month stats, so here they are: weight 19 lbs 15 oz (25-50%), height 27 3/4 inches (25-50%), and head 48 cm (90%). So apparently he still has a large head compared with the rest of his body. And he's about to outgrow his infant carrier carseat. I'll miss the convenience, but he stays awake during most of our outings now anyway.

Three More Months...

...until Cian can have ice cream and cake when he turns one. He hit the nine month mark on Groundhog Day (six more weeks of winter, whatever). He now crawls and pulls up on everything, so most cabinets in the house have child locks on them and all outlets are covered. We don't have to worry about the floor lamp anymore, he took care of that - his first broken household object. At least he's pretty good at not smacking his head anymore when he's trying to stand up.

What a cheeseball!

This is more his usual expression. Except for some reason his nose looks really orange. Too many carrots and sweet potatoes? Apparently he still needs to get used to chunkier food, every time I try to give him anything other than stage 2 baby food, a teething biscuit, or Cheerios (or when he eats paper or something else not meant for human consumption), he gags and hurls. So I'm really hoping he grows out of that soon. Sorry for ending on that nice note, but that's what's on my mind at the moment.

Poor Maggie

Maggie had knee surgery a few weeks ago. She has the misfortune of having kneecaps that slip in and out of place, so hopefully the surgery will fix that. She had the right knee done first, and will likely have the left knee done this spring. I think she is still learning that she can use that leg again and getting used to the new feel, as she still hops sometimes.

The pink bandage is her second one. The first one slipped down enough that you could see the stitches. Initially they just added to it, but she seemed really uncomfortable after that, so they took the whole thing off and rewrapped it.

8 Mos

Our boy turned eight months old yesterday. He's getting better at moving around but still doesn't really crawl. He can stand on his own for a few seconds though, so maybe he is going to skip crawling altogether. We're excited for the milestones he has reached and the ones that are yet to come!

Teeth

Shortly after Christmas, we noticed two of Cian's teeth were coming in. Time to break out the toothbrush!

Christmas

Cian's first Christmas went well. As we anticipated, he was more about the paper, bows, and bags than what was in them. But he had fun and there will be plenty of time to enjoy the gifts. That morning, when I started taking pictures of him in front of the tree, he was leaning over on one hand. After the flash got going, he sat up straight and posed for the camera. Is it possible that we have a ham on our hands? Seems odd, since Marc and I are about as un-hammy as it gets.
